Coldrain and Chiodos! (Sorry it’s a long story!)
Everyone who is coldrain people on tumblr know my story but I’ll explain it again. Last year I made a tweet about how my gf thought Masato of coldrain was just like Craig Owens. I made a tweet and an hour later a global tweet from Craig mentioned he just heard about coldrain and thanked me on twitter. When I saw coldrain and Masato in Bristol, he thanked me for the tweet and the love.
Two weeks ago Chiodos announced a London set with Coldrain. Needless to say, I was going crazy, I felt that I helped make this happen. So tonight was the gig and it was amazing. I didn’t get front row but I got 2nd row, the 8 track set was all the classics (not “to be alive” sadly) and all the energy the boys bring. After the set, before I could even go “excuse me could I get that setlist” the girl in the front handed it to me. I was touched that someone would do that.
Onto chiodos, and I’ll admit I’m not a fan but I like their music. I knew Craig back with DRUGS, so when he started with “only thing you talk about” was a shock to me. After battling with the rowdy crowd, the set was great and I have huge respect for Craig, even if he almost broke my arms caus he was using mine and others to hold him up in the crowd.
During the set at the first break Craig was hyping coldrain
Craig: give it up for coldrain! You know, I first heard the band from a tweet someone sent to me
I scream out “THAT WAS ME!!”
Craig: really?! Thank you man!
After the set, I find the coldrain boys, first was Masato. He looked right at me and said “living the life man! We did it!. After a photo, and hug he personally thanked me for that tweet and all my support. I was taken aback. He thanked me! I got something I never dreamed of.
Later I find Craig. I could of spoken to him for ages, but the mob were bigger fans than I was. I grabbed his hand, said to him “I was that guy who sent the tweet” and he thanked me for “the heads up”. I thanked him, got my photo and went on my way.
I graves photos with the rest of coldrain and chatted with then for a while. Then I met Masato again. I explained how I first discovered him and the bad via the charity song by AA= “we are not alone” then explained how without Takeshi Udea I wouldn’t be listening to Japanese music. Moment I said “mad capsule markets” Masato’s eyes lit up and he said to me “you have great taste in Japanese music!”
Tonight was one of those life changing nights. I always wondered if that harmless tweet would get anywhere. It got a band from Japan to get global exposure, it got a guy to find a new band. And it brought two bands together. But to be personally thanked by bands THAT big. Never in my wildest days would I ever think that would happen
